Welcome to our new feature where we talk about random things we’ve seen around the blogosphere. It could be an interesting article, a book trailer, maybe a fun piece of news we feel you should know about, and maybe even a stylish pair of shoes or handbag we’ve seen (if Laura has her way!). Basically it’s a bit of a mashup! Enjoy….

Kindle Ebook Sales Over Take Print on Amazon

News this week is that sales of ebooks on Amazon have exceeded that of their print books. I have to confess by being both surprised and not surprised by this news. I know I’m not making sense, bear with me! I pretty much suspected this would happen at some point, in many ways we’ve seen this story before with the music industry. But I didn’t expect it to happen so soon. There are still so many people that are book people, you know people who just love the delicious smell of books and those crisp lovely pages. Even I who love my Kindle A LOT, still love pretty new books. But when I read this article it made me think about what books I’ve bought this year and I realised I’ve only actually bought two physical books, the rest have been ebooks. So it makes me wonder where this is going to take the publishing industry, in ten years will we buy actual books anymore?

Jennifer Lawrence $10 million Hunger Games Pay Deal

After her success in the film adaptation of THE HUNGER GAMES apparently Jennifer Lawrence has negotiated a super pay rise for the two sequels. Her pay cheque which was a modest £500,000 for the first film, will be a rather larger $10 million for CATCHING FIRE and MOCKINGJAY which will be broken down into three further films, rather than two. I personally thought Jennifer was great as Katniss. I had my reservations when she was first cast, but she captured the essence of Katniss brilliantly, so I’m glad to see she will be continuing with the rest of the films.  If only I could get a job where I was paid $10 million…. I must buy that lottery ticket ;-)

Goodreads Interviews Sherrilyn Kenyon

I’m a huge Sherrilyn Kennyon fan and have read all of her Dark-Hunter books, some of the more than once. So I had fan-girl moment when I saw that she has been interviewed on Goodreads this month. I didn’t know she collected swords or that she used to work as a paranormal investigator! AND….. *excitement levels reaching mega watt volume* – there is going to be a Dark-Hunter TV series. Holy cow, yes a TV series *dies*!!! Read it here.

How To Make A Handbag Out Of A Book

You all know I love books. You all know I love handbags. So a book handbag, what more can I ask for? I had to share this very fun YouTube video HOW TO MAKE A HANDBAG OUT OF A RECYCLED BOOK. I had to ignore my rule of ‘you don’t deface a book… ever’. To admit that this was quite a fun idea, especially if you are swapping your physical library over to an ebook one.

Interesting statistic on ebooks overtaking physical books. What I want to know is the breakdown of these books. Are they the same ones that are top of the charts or are they the free or self published books?

Regardless, I’m still a physical book fan and I’m the opposite. Most of my books are still in the physical format. What is really interesting is the fact that the Edinburgh international book festival was still really busy and people were buying books in the shop. As long as we still have these conventions/festivals, physical books won’t go the way of the music format. There is nothing nicer than getting a signed book.

Ok…. I have a confession to make. Its a deep dark secret… I am a collector of barbie dolls. True not as much as I used to be but I recently got a Katness doll for my birthday. The detail is really cool. Anyway, I have to say I’m pleased Jennifer Lawrence is getting a pay increase, but I’m more happy at the fact she will still be in the next x-men film.

As for Sherrilyn Kenyons Dark Hunter series becoming a TV show, I have to say I have mixed feelings on this. It depends on who is making it, what storylines they are going to cover. Kenyon has well over 20 books in the series, and that’s not including the were-hunter and dream-hunter ones. It will be interesting to see how this developes.

In terms of the book stat, I think it was based on sales so I guess it’s not the freebies.

Ooh a secret Barbie collector, I never would have guessed that. I bet your collection is really interesting :-)

In terms of the Darkhunter series, I’m really excited, I do wonder who will be the main characters in it. I imagine the storylines I’ll mixup a few of the books??

I couldn’t find much online about the TV series, it must still be in the early stages, but it looks like the Chronicles of Nick the YA spinoff is getting a movie. I have a few of her books at home but I haven’t read them yet! I got burned out on paranormal everything so I’ve taken a break for awhile.

Oh I think I have heard about the Nick chronicles. The early dark-hunter books are very good, I definitely recommend them

What a great post – I’ll say it again, I love this Monday Mas-Up series :D

I’m an inbetweener. I didn’t think I would like my kindle as much as I do when I got it for my birthday but… I really do. It’s so handy when you have limited house space for books – do you KNOW how hard it is to have regular book purges? VERY! BUT I am an avid reader in the bath and you can’t do that with a kindle so I’ll always read physical novels in that way – plus you can’t beat trawling second hand and charity shops for book treasure. Plus art & craft books which I am addicted to will always, ALWAYS be bought in book form. I need the colour, and the feel of them and to not be scared for them to be noted in or splashed with paint etc.

Sherrilyn Kenyon – I think I may have read one of her books… would it have been quite naughty? I thin I quite enjoyed it not sure how it would translate to TV,,, but then again, look at True Blood :D

I think we should start a petition for Gemma to show us her collection :D I need to see this. I must admit I have been chopping Barbie heads off lately to feed my zombie doll I’m making *g* I do like some of the collector editions though. My sister is a huge Elizabeth Taylor fan and while looking for a present for her once I spotted a stunning Cleopatra Barbie – out of my price range though.

Love that book handbag, almost a shame to cover up those gorgeous images inside the cover.

Thank you, I’m so glad you like my Monday Mashups! :-)
I think I may have to work on Gemma showing us her collection ;-)
The Sherrilyn Kennyon books are a bit naughty, but they are very good! I think the books handbag idea is really cool, if only I was any good at craft, which I’m sadly not!
