Fury Of SeductionI’m very pleased to welcome Coreene Callahan to the blog today. Coreene is the author of the Dragonfury paranormal romance series published by Montlake Romance. I had fun interviewing Coreene, she’s a lovely lady, I hope you enjoy it.

Hi Coreene, thanks so much for answering our questions today – it’s wonderful to have you as part of our All Hallows Eve event.

Hi everybody! Thanks for inviting me to visit today. I’m thrilled I have a chance to chat with all of you!

Can you tell us a bit about your DRAGONFURY paranormal romance series, the characters and what’s in store for us?

In nutshell, the Dragonfury Novels are about a group of half-dragon, half-human warriors embroiled in a bitter feud with a rogue faction of their kind. Able to shift form at will, they fight not only to protect their way of life, but also to prevent the extinction of the human race.

More specially, FURY OF SEDUCTION, book three in my Dragonfury series (available Nov. 13th!), is about redemption, second chances, and one women’s fight to survive in an unforgiving world. Caught between warring factions of Dragonkind and pulled from harm’s way in the nick of time, she is left with a terrible choice: forsake her hard-won independence and reclaim the life she loves or abandon the dragon-shifter who now holds her heart.

I also write a paranormal historical series called The Circle of Seven about elite assassins in 14th century Transylvania and the magical order they protect. Dragons show up in this series too, so get ready for the fallout!

The first book in the series, KNIGHT AWAKENED, will be released on December 4th, 2012.

How much of your personality bleeds into your characters?

Honestly, not much. I think, perhaps, I share some common interests with my characters, but in terms of personality, I build each character from the ground up. I am fascinated by the study of human behavior and love psychological profiles, so I before I write word one of a book I profile each of the main and secondary characters. I want to know their strengths, weakness, backgrounds, what they struggle with, how it affects them, what they think of themselves and the world around them…in other words, EVERYTHING!

Do you listen to music while writing or do you prefer silence?

I don’t listen to music while writing. I know some writers do, but for me, once I sink into the ‘zone’ (that lovely place where nothing exists but my characters and the story), I don’t hear anything. Not a peep. I’ve actually been startled more than once when someone tries to talk to me while I’m writing. I never hear them coming!

If you hadn’t become a writer, what would you have done for a living?

I would be an Interior Designer. I went back to school a couple of years after I finished my degree in Psychology and completed a design degree. I really enjoyed working in such a dynamic environment and with such talented people, but ultimately chose to follow my bliss. I feel very fortunate that I am able to write full time and give voice to the characters constantly circling inside my head.

If you could be ANYONE for just one day, who would you want to be and why?

Coreene: Oprah! She lives a really interesting life. Especially now that she has created a TV network of her own. I’d love to know what makes her tick and be in the thick of it, experiencing the highs and lows of building something from the ground up. I would no doubt learn a lot!

What was the last book you bought? Did you love it or hate it?

The Bourne Legacy on audiobook. And honestly, I haven’t read (urr…listened) to it yet. My TBR pile is ridiculous!

Name five people (Dead or Alive) you’d invite to your fantasy dinner party and what would you eat?

Maya Angelou, Winston Churchill, Gwen Stefani, Rick Mercer, and Master James of St George (King Edward I’s master architect). I think that would be an interesting mix, don’t you?

Oh, and what to eat? A hard question for me to answer as I’m not a foodie or a very good cook. Although, now that I think of it, I would invite Jamie Oliver to come cook for us and leave the menu entirely up to him!

What’s your favourite TV show right now?

Criminal Minds. As I said above, the study of human behavior fascinates me, so the show feeds my obsession and gives me a mystery to solve while the team goes about catching the bad guys each week.

If you could be a supernatural creature, what would you be?

A dragon-shifter, of course! I would love to be able to take dragon form anytime I chose. Imagine…no more paying for airline tickets! I could simply spread my wings and fly off to interesting locals anytime I wanted.

As it’s All Hallows Eve month here at BCC, we can’t end the interview without asking, do you celebrate Halloween? If so, how do you celebrate – do you dress up, eat lots of candy, go trick or treating? ;D

I do celebrate Halloween. I have school age children, so it’s mandatory! (Thank God…all that chocolate coming through the door. Nothing better!). I haven’t dressed up in recent years. My girlfriends and I started a new tradition a couple of Halloweens ago. All the Dads take the kids out trick or treating in a group, leaving the Moms to congregate in one of our homes to drink wine and chat! I have to say, I LOVE the new tradition!

Thanks so much, Coreene, and Happy Halloween!

A huge thanks to Book Chick City for inviting me on today. I had a lot of fun answering your questions! If you have a chance, please visit my website for all the latest news. Or drop by my Facebook page  and Twitter. I always love hearing from you!

As the only girl on all guys hockey teams from age six through her college years, Coreene Callahan knows a thing or two about tough guys and loves to write about them. Call it kismet. Call it payback after years of locker room talk and ice rink antics, but whatever you call it, the action better be heart stopping, the magic electric, and the story wicked, good fun.

After graduating with honors in psychology and working as an interior designer, she finally succumbed to her overactive imagination and returned to her first love: writing. And when she’s not writing, she’s dreaming of magical worlds full of dragon-shifters, elite assassins, and romance that’s too hot to handle. Callahan currently lives in Canada with her family and writing buddy, a fun-loving golden retriever. (Photo © Julie Daniluk)

If I had my very own dragon shifter, I would ask him to take me to his layer and then to bed. I’ve always dreamed of owning my own dragon; that fire, that possession, that powerful beauty! *sigh* I dream of dragons!

Wendy Hoffman October 30, 2012 at 8:08 pm

Irene Jackson October 30, 2012 at 8:15 pm

Karis B October 30, 2012 at 9:25 pm

I’ve always wnated to go see the Brazilian rainforests and all the jungles of the world but for practical purposes never really thought to go because it’s so dangerous for someone like me.
But with a dragon shifter whats to fear, right?
Thanks for the giveaway!

Melissa (Books and Things) October 30, 2012 at 10:04 pm
