The best books you should be reading right now!

Each fortnight we will be recommending five of our favourite recent releases that we think you will love. Just click the book cover to be taken to our full review or its Goodreads page. We hope you find some fabulous reads and maybe a few new authors too. Happy Reading!

1. IRONSKIN by Tina Connolly

A well-constructed fusion of the best elements of Jane Eyre, fantasy and a tiny bit of steampunk to give a truly compelling story of one woman’s struggle to find her inner strength and overcome the stigma of her disability. It’s not long before you are drawn into Jane Eliot’s world and wondering what is behind the iron mask!

1. THE CASUAL VACANCY by J. K. Rowling

J.K. Rowling’s welcome return with her first foray into the adult market. This book offers a realistic view of an English community, with a whole host of characters to relate to, both young and old, rich and poor. Brilliantly written, a book you won’t be able to put down until you’ve devoured every page.

3. RAPTURE by Kameron Hurley

An exceptional tale set in the strange post apocolyptic/sci-fi/fantasy mash-up world. Nyx, the former bel dame, is back with a mission that takes her into the desert to find her former mentor, Raine, who she thought was long dead. A perfect book if you are looking for a gritty, violent, mind boggling read..

4. DAUGHTER OF THE SWORD by Steve Bein

A great start to a new urban fantasy series set in the heart of Tokyo with a firm basis in Japanese culture. It follows the legends of famous swords through time, and the attention to detail will keep you enthralled in the settings, not to mention the action scenes. Recommended for urban fantasy lovers!

5. DEAD MANN RUNNING by Stefen Petrucha

Zombie detective, Hessius Mann is back and has a new case to solve when a mysterious briefcase is delivered to his door. This kicks off a series of events to challenge the living and undead. A perfect mix of ‘who dunnit’ and horror that will keep you guessing until the final pages.

Thanks!

They all look really good. I must admit I like the sound of Dead Mann Running, but that’s only because I love zombies ;)

This is a great list. I’ve been meaning it check out Ironskin for a while, and who could resist a zombie detective. Off to Amazon, I go!

I can never resist zombie fiction, so I’ll definitely be picking up the first book in the series. Melanie’s review makes me want to read it like, NOW! LOL

uh-oh, don’t you just love/hate the one-click button?

The Dead Mann series is great. Better to read both books to get the complete picture. Ironskin is a great read. Then to really blow your mind you should read the Bel Dame series.
