Hi Guys! Hope you’re having a great weekend. Here’s the low down on what happened at BCC this week…

I have been indiscriminately continuing my Christmas book love! After finishing CHRISTMAS EVE AT FRIDAY HARBOUR by Lisa Kleypas which I completely loved! The writing was so cosy and just what you want from a Christmas novel. I then moved on to NO MISTLETOE REQUIRED by Jeanette Murray. It’s slightly on the corny size, yes there is such a thing in Christmas novels… who knew? ūüėČ

I am now taking a break from Christmas books and read something for our Alternative Romance feature, which is CRASH INTO ME by Jill Sorenson, a new author to me, but it had a fab heroine. I have just started reading CIPHER by Moira Rogers, number four in the series and the rather anticipated Kat and Andrew book!

I’ve have now finished GRACELING by Kristin Cashore on the audiobook front, I know I’ve said for several weeks it’s awesome, but it really is! And I’ve just started HOW TO FLIRT WITH A NAKED WEREWOLF by Molly Harper. I couldn’t resist the fun look of the cover and I’m rather taken with the Alaskan setting, I quite fancy a holiday there now.

I’ve also managed to make it out for the night for a now rare trip to the cinema (since my son was born) and saw TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN PART 2 which Gemma and I reviewed on Friday – with differing opinions!

I’ve been very tough with myself on the book buying front as I have so many review books to read, but I have decided I am going to go on the hunt for a beautifully illustrated copy of THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS for my son. I think I’m going to make it a new Christmas tradition for us to read it together on Christmas Eve :-D. Anyone else feel really festive like me?

Apologies to all for my lack of posting recently with last Friday’s Film Review AND no weekly round-up. I have been wearing the cone of shame. :(

This was for two very good reasons. 1) I had the cold last week so was spending very little time online and 2) My sister was expected to give birth any day. My mind was a bit absent so I my blogging duties kind of fell by the wayside. (She has given birth to a bouncing beautiful baby boy in the early hours of Wednesday 14th November. Both are doing very well!)

So this post is to make up for those failings.

Reading wise, I managed to finish THE TAKEN by Vicki Petterson. Overall, I enjoyed the book but don’t know the reasons why I did. My review for this book is currently WIP.

After finishing this, I had to change my plans slightly. Last time on the blog I said that I would be reading A COWBOY FOR CHRISTMAS next. When I went to open the ebook, it was corrupted. As this was an ARC, I tried to re-download it from Edelweiss. Unfortunately, the link had expired. So ins

tead I have moved on to reading MISTLETOE COWBOY by Carolyn Brown. So far it’s ok, but it’s not really blowing me away. My review will be up as part of the upcoming event in December.

I also finished THE ANGEL by Tiffany Reisz, having realised that the third book in the series THE PRINCE is out this week. THE ANGEL turned out to be a much darker read than THE SIREN. I’m enjoying it, but it left me a little uncomfortable. (Goodbye comfort zone!)

Next up I will be reading ROMANCING THE HOLIDAY, which is an anthology containing a short story from one of my new favourite authors Jaci Burton. Again this is part of the upcoming event in December and I look forward to reading it.

Non-book wise, I managed to get to the cinema to see ARGO and SILENT HILL 3D; REVELATION. ARGO was a surprise hit and you can read my review here. SILENT HILL 3D: REVELATION was ok, but lacked that certain something. Review still to be written.

By the time you read this, my joint review with Laura for TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN PART 2 should be live. I’m not a huge fan of the Twilight films and Kristen Stewart isn’t one of my Fave actresses. Overall it was ok.

My book ban has been going really well. I refrained from buying or pre-ordering any books. And the only books I did buy were for gifts for my family.

So that’s it for me this week. Laters! :)

Since the last roundup, I’ve read all my Christmas reads: VAMPIRE FOR CHRISTMAS by Felicity Heaton, BAH, HUMBUG by Heather Horrocks and ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU by Lisa Mondello. They were all very different, one had hot sex scenes, two made me cry, the reviews are to come soon. I have read several from my personal TBR pile, CRIMSON FROST by Jennifer Estep, SEEKING CRYSTAL by Joss Stirling, FRACTURE by Megan Miranda, SIX GEESE-A-LAYING by Sophie Kinsella, UNHOLY GHOSTS by Stacia Kane, THE DECLARATION and THE RESISTANCE both by Gemma Malley, all of which I have really enjoyed.

I love buying new books, I’m sure I’ve a bit of an addiction as I now have close to 100 TBR books sitting on my shelf or waiting on my Kindle. I’ve recently bought PURE by Julianna Baggott, SEEKING CRYSTAL by Joss Stirling, EVERNEATH by Brodi Ashton, THE SEA OF TRANQUILITY by Katja Millay, THE RESISTANCE by Gemma Malley, A SINISTER GAME, which was a freebie sent from the lovely Heather Killough-Walden via her Facebook page. I have received a few books from NetGalley, CRIMSON FROST by Jennifer Estep, I like the Frost series and I enjoyed reading Melanie’s review on the first book in the series, THE STONE DEMON by Karen Mahoney and MOONSET by Scott Tracey.

Next week I’ll read CROSSING THE RUBICON by R.C. Richter and my husband was fed up with being ignored by me for a book so he decided he would try to write one, he’s called it BORN IN THE SHADOWS, I will need to give him some attention/feedback, fingers crossed it’s positive. I was very excited for a night out with the girls to watch TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN PART 2 and it didn’t let me down although I did go into shock for about 15 minutes during the film. I’m also excited for the CITY OF BONES movie, the trailer has just been released and I can’t wait for the movie. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare is currently my favourite YA series so I have high expectations for the film.

This has been a very slow two weeks for me as I haven‚Äôt managed to read very much. I don‚Äôt know if my lack of productivity was that I overdid myself recently or that I have spent a number of tube journeys knitting these! How cute is this? I got lobbied to help a friend knit them for her favourite dog rescue charity – Irish Retriever Rescue. Despite being much quicker knitter than I, she has so many orders she needed to draft in my help. It’s rather hard to see in this pic but these knitted stockings are only about 2 inches long…perfect for the tree.

I did finish DAUGHTER OF THE SWORD by Steve Bein which was reviewed by Rebecca earlier this year. I really enjoyed it and felt like I almost knew some Japanese by the end of it. Thanks to Steve for the nice glossary at the back. I also started ECKO RISING by Danie Ware which I will be reviewing. It is a fantasy/sci fi mashup in the extreme. One chapter is almost pure sci fi and the next almost pure fantasy and back and forth. Very odd concept. I also started THE WRONG GOODBYE by Chris F Holm which is the second in the Collector series but I may have to put this on hold while I finish reading my December books for review.

I had a couple of goodies pop onto my Kindle during the week including LORD’S FALL by Thea Harrison which is the next in the Elder Races series and the BONE SHAKER by Cherie Priest. The cover of this book was reviewed on BCC. My final purchase was TIMETRIPPER by Stefan Petrucha. Now I just need time to read them all!

I have spent this last week in sunny Canada tomorrow visiting my Mom so this roundup will probably be 5 hours behind and written in Canadian…. eh! Not much reading has happened here as I have been driving around and just finished another knitting project. I did manage to finish LORD’S FALL and just on page two of STRAY SOULS by Kate Griffin. Fingers crossed I get this finished before my flight back. Until next week have a good one.
