DEATH’S ANGEL (Lost Angel #3) | RELEASE DATE: December 2012
PUBLISHER: Headline | GENRE: Paranormal Romance | ARTIST: Unknown
It’s time for Azrael’s story… As the former Archangel of Death, Azrael has always stood apart from his brothers. Cursed to rule from the darkness, he is not only one of the four favored archangels, but the very first vampire, and king among his kind.
Sophie Bryce is a woman scarred by the dark secrets of her past. Though she is overwhelmingly attracted to the brooding archangel, she simply cannot believe that she is the one fated to be with such an extraordinary being. But Azrael has known differently from the moment he laid eyes on Sophie and he will stop at nothing to win her heart – even if he has to fight an army of unimaginable evils to do so… (Amazon.co.uk)
Since the first cover in the series for Avenger’s Angel, which I love, these covers have just gone from bad to worse. This is just dreadful. The model they’ve used is NOT attractive in the least (but maybe that’s just personal preference) and I dislike his curly mop of hair and supposedly seductive/intense stare. I do like that there’s a continuity with the title font, and I quite like the lightening and red background, but why is it just the Angel Azreal, where’s his true love? I don’t like that they’ve kept her off the cover, unless of course Azreal doesn’t actually find his true love, which does make the situation intriguing. Overall though, I don’t really like it, but then the US cover isn’t much better.
I really want to like this cover, but it just puts me in mind of the magician Criss Angel’s posters for his magic show. The artist has tried to keep it in tone with the other books in the series and in some ways they have continued the theme with the block background and a very similar font, but I just can’t warm to to the cover at all.
Azrael has always came across as a Bad-Ass in other stories which have Angels as the main protagonists in the story, but here he kind of puts me in mind of a clean shaven Russel Brand. The leather jacket is supposed to make him more tough, but I just can’t buy it at all. I do like the lightening, and the red background is really striking, but this cover doesn’t make me want to pick it up and read it.

This is so very nearly good. I love the fact that the model is the same, as are all the fonts, for the covers in this series, but what I don’t like is the knife, or more precisely where it’s placed. She better watch it, or she may poke her eye out! I wish the knife was held just a few inches to the left and her face was free of obstruction.
Ooh, now this is more like it! I really like this cover. Just going by the cover and what it hints at, I think this will have an occult theme, juding by the symbol in the background. Right now, I’m undecided whether the character in the book is a hero or a villain. My gut instinct is telling me that the character could start out as a villain and end up a hero, or is going to be a reluctant hero in the tale. The model has that sinister and dangerous edge to her that just gives out the vibes that she is not to be messed with.
The more I look at this cover, the more I’m intrigued with what the book is about. Does it have demons in it? Is the character trying to control demons or call them up? The title even hints at some sort of voodoo influence with the fact that it is called “On Pins and Needles.” Overall, I really rather like this cover.
