Having read, and really enjoyed, Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis, I decided to continue with the series and read book two, The Sweetest Thing, which I must say was even better. I loved Tara and Ford’s story. I am now a few chapters into Head Over Heels, which is the third book and Chloe’s story. It’s started ok but I’m not feeling it as much as the first two, but it’s early days yet. Reviews of all three books coming soon. I am SO pleased to have found this author. I love her writing style, and because of that I have bought the first book in her other series, Animal Magnetism, which I’m really looking forward to reading – it contains love and animals, what a great combo!
On my iPad Mini I’m also reading Cut & Run by Madeleine Urban and Abigail Roux. This is an M/M Romance and I’ve heard really good things about this series, so I’m real excited to be reading it. It was one of my New Year’s Reading Resolutions to start this series, and so far it’s a fun read.
I will say though, I think I am coming to the end of my contemporary romance kick. I seem to have gorged myself on them and I’m now hankering after a really good paranormal romance or urban fantasy. I think I really needed this break from uf/pnr, but now I’m raring to get back to my kick-ass chicks and sexy angel heroes… so after I’ve read the above, Archangel’s Storm here I come….
At the end of my first full week back at work in 2013, I have realised I really haven’t read that much. I finished off the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger with Heartless and Timeless. I am totally proud of myself as I think I lasted a whole 3 days between the penultimate and final book. After I read Rebecca’s review of Timeless I knew that I couldn’t wait so I went and downloaded it. I completely agree with Rebecca’s review and I really enjoyed this series overall. One or two of the books weren’t as good as the first but the plot arc over all 5 books was well constructed and everything tied up nicely at the end. I even came away with some great sayings like ‘discombobulated’ and ‘bed sport’. Tee hee!
I switched genres and read Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder, which I really enjoyed and will be reviewing, hopefully in February so watch out for it. I also quite liked Dead Spots by Melissa F. Olson which has been on my TBR for a while. I bought it one of the Kindle sales and forgot all about it. The heroine is a null similar to Alexia in the Parasol Protectorate so its a bit unfortuate that I read these two rather similar stories so close together. I will be reviewing this one as well. Lucky me!
I am currently reading two books (one with each eye!) Osiris by E.J. Swift and Darkness Falls by Jessican Sorenson. I am trying to remember where I got both of these from but think they must have been freebies. I am not finding either a particularly easy read. I am finding it hard to figure out what is going on in Osiris without having to rely on the Goodreads summary and I can’t decide whether Darkness Falls is just not that well written or the heroine is just a bit too naive for words. You will have to stay tuned for my roundup next week to find out my final conclusion.
I hope you have had a great week and happy reading.
Well a belated Happy New Year to Everyone. Apologies for the lack of updates and chatter the last couple of weeks. I was so zonked after a very hard end of year at work. My motiviation had taken a holiday. (It went to the Bahamas and sent me a rather nice postcard). Anyway I am now back and raring to go.
Since my last update, I have finished 3 books in total, two in the last week alone. First up, I finally finished Something From Tiffany’s by Melissa Hill. I really liked this book, though it wasn’t without some flaws. My review should be coming soon for that. I also managed to read Yesterdays Heroes by Heather Long. This was sort of a Sci/Fi romance type book. Though it was short, it held a lot of promise and I wouldn’t mind reading more by this author. The other book I managed to finish was very short indeed (Amazon has it at 44 pages long). It was called No Reservations by Lilly Cain. You will have to wait to see what I think of that book when my review is up.
By the time you read this, I should have finished reading Gilded by Karina Cooper. I’m really enjoying this book a lot. I loved Tarnished and this continues to hold the trend of another great book. I’ve also just started an anthology called Blood by Moonlight. It has three shorts by Jocelynn Drake, Terri Garey (who I’ve read before) and Caris Roane. Hopefully this should be good. Next up, I think I will read Angel’s Ink by Jocelynn Drake or The Mad Scientists Daughter, by Cassandra Rose Clarke. Both are personal books as I have hit my two book review target stated in my New Years Resolutions.
Last week I managed to see Life of Pi at the cinema and I have to admit, I rather enjoyed it, even though it was a bit of a spur of the moment viewing. Check out my review. This week I plan to go and see Les Misérables and Gangster Squad. Two very different films that both look excellent. My reviews will hopefully be up soon.
Finally, you may have read my post on my New Years Resolutions, so each week I will give a quick recap on how well I am doing with sticking to them. Though it’s only week one, I am still on track. Long may this continue…
My first book of the year (late starter, I know) is The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. I’ve heard really great things about this book and it was one of my Christmas presents, so I can’t wait to get stuck in to the plot, and hope it blows me away.
Elsewhere I saw Rise of the Guardians at the cinema, and for a kids film it was surprisingly good and I really recommend it. Considering seeing Les Miserables this week, waiting to see if the reviews are good!
I have done better with my reading this week and have finally finished all my December review books withThe Rebels of New Sun by Michael Kinch, Barely Human by Trace Riles and The Book of the Forsaken by Yannis Karatsioris. I have also started on my January reviews and read The Dark Heroine by Abigail Gibbs, I have wanted to read this for a little while and needing a book to kick start my reading again it was just the ticket and I have already pre-ordered the next book in the series, Autumn Rose.
I’ve been quite busy book buying this week, I love a new book, I just wish I had more time to get through my TBR pile! I have bought Partials by Dan Wells, Ashes and Shadows by Ilsa J Bick, Radiant by Cynthia Hand, Crewel by Gennifer Albin and Annabel by Lauren Oliver, which is a very short story to go with the Delirium series and I have already finished it.
Next week I hope to read Sister Assassin by Kiersten White and Pantomime by Laura Lam. What books are you wanting to pick up?
