The best books you should be reading right now!

Each fortnight we will be recommending five of our favourite recent releases that we think you will love. Just click the book cover to be taken to our full review or its Goodreads page. We hope you find some fabulous reads and maybe a few new authors too. Happy Reading!

1. SKYLARK by Megan Spooner

A fantastic dystopian coming of age story where the fight for freedom could be a fight to the death. Lark is on the run in a bleak and terrifying landscape rather than end up the human battery powering the Wall. Spooner creates a tense story for her reluctant heroine that will have you on the edge of your seat from the start.

2. PANTOMIME by Laura Lam

A wonderful YA fantasy that addresses issues of sexuality in ways that I haven’t seen before, set in a magical tale of accepting who you are, overcoming bullies and finding a place where you fit in. A fantastic début novel, full of surprise twists and definitely one of those books that stay with you long after you put it down.

3. THE TROUBLE WITH FATE by Leigh Evans

The first in a new series about Hedi, a young woman is half-fae, half-werewolf. Hedi and her aunt are the last of the fae, hunted by the wolves but unable to open the door back to the fae world. An exciting and witty tale that will have you on the edge of your seat and holding your breath as you turn each page.

4. DINNER WITH A VAMPIRE by Abigail Gibbs

A wonderful urban fantasy set in England with a tough, sarcastic human heroine, who when taken as a political hostage stands up to the spoilt rich vampire prince. There’s sexy blood sucking vampires, vampire hunters, a rocky romance and a great plot. This is a vampire romance with a difference. An impressive début.

5. THE SNOW CHILD by Eowyn Ivey

A magical story in which a childless couple build a snowman and mysteriously find a young girl in its place, and in a financial struggle during the Alaskan winter, this little girl holds them together. A heartwarming tale with a heartbreaking end, but a book you will want to re-read over and over.

Carolyn

Carolyn created Book Chick City in July 2009 due to her love of books. A Brit chick obsessed with zombies, kick-arse chicks and sexy heroes. She's also seriously addicted to chocolate, shopping, and coffee. Her favourite genres are Urban Fantasy, Romance and Zombie Lit... Brrraaaaiiinnnnsss!
