Welcome to Monday Mashup, where we talk about everything and anything we’ve come across around the internets. It could be an interesting article, a book trailer, a fun piece of news we feel you should know about, or maybe a stylish pair of shoes (if Laura has her way!) or something zombie-ish (if Carolyn has her way!). Basically, it’s a bit of a mashup! Enjoy…

Hey BCC readers, Kearstie here with my first Monday Mashup. I was twitting about earlier this week, when I found an article that made me feel a bit nostalgic. Because, let’s be honest, Bring It On really did teach me that the most appropriate comeback was usually a silent hand gesture…

Vampire Academy Trailer

Excuse me while I squee like a fangirl for a moment. While I do spend the majority of my time reading adult novels, that doesn’t mean that I’ve forgotten about all the amazing YA series that I enjoyed when I was younger. At the top of that list is the Vampire Academy series, so you can guess my reaction when I heard they were turning it into a movie. The trailer came out just recently, and let me tell you… the movie looks like it will be epic. Click the link and check it out!

Kristin Chenoweth’s New Version of “Popular”

Now, I know many of our writers, editors, and readers here at BCC are from the UK, but I hail from across the pond in the US. This year, a controversial candidate has decided to run for the mayor of New York City, and took to YouTube to announce his intentions. Kristin Chenoweth, of Wicked fame, performed a musical rebuttal to this recently on Jay Leno’s television show, in a rewritten version of the song “Popular,” from the aforementioned musical. Regardless of your feelings on the unfortunately named Mr. Weiner, this musical bashing should give you a good laugh!

Chuck Wendig on so-called “Aspiring” Writers

As a writer, as well as an avid reader, I’m a firm believer that you get the best advice on writing from people who, themselves, write. This week I came across an article while perusing one of my favorite blogs, written by novelist, screenwriter, and game designer, Chuck Wendig. It was directed toward “Aspiring” Writers, and was a brutally honest, blunt, and hilariously written post. I firmly believe that anyone who writes, or wants to write should read it. Right now.

Pride & Prejudice Scarf

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a bit of a freak for Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and that I LOVE scarves. I know I’m not alone here! So imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this Pride and Prejudice text scarf on Etsy. It’s adorable, and it looks super soft. Here’s the link if you’d like to scoop one up for yourself. Feel free to pick one up for me, too! ;)

Ridiculously Awesome Bookshelves

Speaking of my love for books, this blog post lists ten amazing bookshelves that will all hopefully someday make their way into my dream home. You know, after I become a multi-millionaire. A girl can dream, right? Anyway, your presence here on BCC suggest you share my slight book obsession, so I figured I’d share the awesomeness. You’re welcome.

After Dead: What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse

So, I have to confess: I have not yet read the final Sookie Stackhouse book, Dead Ever After. I’m really having trouble letting the series go, and so I’ve been putting it off. However, I was recently informed by a friend that while DEA is the last Sookie novel, it is not the end of the line. Charlaine Harris is putting out a follow-up book, which will list each character, alphabetically, and fill in readers on what happened to them after the end of the series. There will also be lots of new art from Lisa Desimini, acclaimed artist of the thirteen original Sookie book covers, as well. The book comes out October 29, 2013, so get your pre-orders in now!

And that’s that for my first Monday Mashup, friends. Hope you enjoyed something on here, and feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts. Have a fabulous Monday!

Ok, I thought the whole purpose of the last Sookie book, was the fact it was the last sookie book? Why have a “What Happens after the end?” Let the reader come to their own conlcusions.

You know, I’m not sure, Gemma. But what I’ve read is that DEA left a lot of minor characters’ plots open ended. I guess she didn’t get to write the final book she wanted to write because it would be too long? Or maybe she’s just having trouble letting go of the world. But I do know this won’t be a novel, per se…. more of an encyclopedia. Regardless, I know I’m going to read it, so I’m choosing to ignore the technicalities :)

Lol! Yeah, no doubt I will read it too. Maybe she could have written a spin off series of books on the other characters???

Haha I wish! Though I doubt it, considering the freak out she got from fans after DEA ended. I haven’t even read, but I’ve known how it was going to end for multiple books now. And to me, if I’m right, it makes sense, and I’m happy with it. But I read on her blog that people were downright hateful, which is pretty awful. Her world, her ending, you know?

Like you Kearstie I’ve not read the last book yet, but have heard how it’s all going to end and I’m with you her books, her world, her ending. As for people being hateful, it’s just horrible. I would much rather she writes the ending she had always envisaged than like I’ve heard a rumour about The Vampire Diaries (not sure if it’s true) that they sacked the author and got ghost writers to write the ending the publisher wanted… awful. That’s ten times worse.

I will definitely read this little spin-off.

I agree. I’ve not read the last book either and its on my TBR pile. If that’s how an author wants to end the book, then let them! It’s their work.
