CAROLYN’S RECS
I Am Legend - Richard Matheson
I absolutely loved this book. Full of tension and horror, but also a portrayal of the human spirit. The ending is sad, abrupt and totally unpredictable. The movie is nothing like the book and the ending is totally different. If you haven’t seen the movie then read the book first it is so much better. [Review | Goodreads]
This is a great zombie novel, I really enjoyed it. A combination of horror and urban fantasy with lots of zombie killing and fast-paced action. Ashley Parker is a fantastic heroine and there’s also a very sexy hero. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, Zombie Nation. [Review | Goodreads]
As the World Dies Series - Rhiannon Frater
This is an amazing zombie trilogy – I love these books, especially the two female characters, Katie and Jenni. The world is a scary place due to Frater’s exciting writing style. Definitely three of the best zombie novels in the genre today and a series I would recommend without hesitation. [Review | Goodreads]
Allison Hewitt is Trapped - Madeleine Roux
A fast-paced read with believable characters and convincing story. This is no ordinary zombie novel. It’s fresh and original and I just loved it. A must read for fans of horror, urban fantasy and zombie fiction. It’s a story that stayed with me long after I’d finished it. [Review | Goodreads]
The Woman in Black - Susan Hill
This is one of my favourite books – it’s a brilliant old-fashioned ghost story packed with bone-chilling suspense. Everything is written in wonderful detail and you’re pulled into the story from the very first page. A fabulous read – I can’t recommend it enough! [Review | Goodreads]
This is my all time favourite horror book… Although it doesn’t really give me the willies, it still provokes a strong response. I love the prose, I love the characters and Dracula is just a superb character and although there’s an abundance of sexuality in this book it’s subtle. [Goodreads]
This book is sensational. I love everything about it from the writing to the characters and the ‘creature.’ I felt so sorry for the creature that Frankenstein created and could totally understand his actions. If you haven’t read this novel yet I urge that you do. Not only is it a fantastic piece of horror fiction but it is also a classic! [Goodreads]
John Cleaver Series - Dan Wells
MELANIE’S RECS
This trilogy is an action packed zombie series with a difference. We follow the intrepid bloggers Shaun and Georgia journey across the States uncovering the secrets and lies of the zombie apocalypse. Fast paced with a complex plot and great characters makes this series a must read, especially for zombie fans. [Goodreads]
The Troupe - Robert Jackson Bennett
A novel that is bleak yet heartwarming, gruesome yet loving, full of hope yet burdened with despair, and a love story unlike any other I have read. This book isn’t for the feint hearted, but it is a truly spectacular and mind blowing read. [Review | Goodreads]
GEMMA’S RECS
The Strain - Guillermo Del Torro & Chuck Hogan
A refreshing spin on the vampire novel. Del Torro and Hogan know how to construct a book that is both novel and familiar. The book keeps you on edge of your seat as you watch helplessly as the city changes, but can do nothing to warn the players in this tale. A great read. [Review | Goodreads]
BECS’S RECS
Tale of the Vampire Bride - Rhiannon Frater
I loved this book. A feisty heroine, a dark, handsome but totally evil vampire villain, full of blood, gore, romance, sex and revenge, what more could I want? Frater has brought the vampire bloodsucking monsters back into the horror section with a fantastic but gruesome plot that’s beautifully written. [Review | Goodreads]
Alice in Zombieland - Gena Showalter
REBECCA’S RECS
Anna Series - Kendare Blake
