Mr Mercedes - Stephen King

What are you reading this weekend? Anything you think we should be reading, or maybe your current read is just a bit… bleh. Whether you’re loving or hating your current read, we want to know about it! We love to hear about books (as if you didn’t know). Here’s a run down on what we’ll be reading this weekend: CAROLYN This weekend I’ll be continuing with After by Anna Todd. This is a new adult romance that started out as fanfic but is now traditionally published. There are four books…

Grace & Frankie

We love a good TV show, especially if it’s a long running series, so we thought it would be fun to make it a bit of a feature here at BCC. Every fortnight we will be talking about the shows we are currently watching, whether they are re-runs of old classics or a shiny new series we’re excited about. This week, it’s all about Grace & Frankie, Vicious, Orange is the New Black and True Detective. CAROLYN Over the last week or so, I’ve been binge watching Grace & Frankie. I didn’t think this would be…

Thoughtful Ramblings

Us book lovers can be a bit crazy at times. Friends do not understand the overwhelming lure of an awesome story or being lost in amazing worlds. Or the need to read just one more page or buy one more book. But fellow bookworms, we get it. We’ve done the crazy things, we know the pull of the written word. I’ve got thirty things right here. Come on… You know you’ve done them too! Read way too late into the night and spend the rest of the day begrudging work…

I Let You Go by Claire Mackintosh

A novel about the loss of a young boy and its repercussions for all involved, I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh is a rare gem that manages to shock and surprise you throughout by playing on your own perceptions of the characters. The book opens with a horrific car accident that claims the life of five-year-old Jacob, as a speeding car hits him and then zooms off, leaving his mother weeping over his broken body. Our perspective then shifts to the police officers in charge of the case, Ray…

Carolyn’s Favourite Gay Movies

Favourite Gay Movies

I have watched a lot of movies in my time, and over the years my tastes have changed with regards to the genres I like. In the past year I have found gay cinema and have become obsessed. What I’ve come to realise is although there is a much smaller pool of movies to choose from, they are as diverse as mainstream films, meaning you will find the crap as well as the amazing. There are also different genres under the gay cinema umbrella; thriller, rom com, erotic, romantic, historical, thought provoking; there’s something for everyone….

Etiquette & Espionage

Having fallen in love with the Parasol Protectorate series, it was high time that I read Gail Carriger’s young adult series, starting with Etiquette and Espionage. We first meet our amusing and forthright heroine, Sophronia Angelina Temminnick, at her family home, whereby she wreaks havoc on a trifle and upsets her mother for the umpteenth time. Unfortunately for Sophronia, her little mishap occurs during the visit of Mademoiselle Geraldine, the headmistress of a revered finishing school. In a desperate attempt to make her more like her well-behaved sister, Sophronia’s mother…
