TheWorldsEnd

The World’s End is the last part in the self-styled “Cornetto Trilogy”, with the first two parts being the Zom-Com Shaun of The Dead and the Buddy Cop Comedy, Hot Fuzz. So The World’s End had a lot to live up to. Though the film showcased what made Shaun of The Dead and Hot Fuzz the classics they are, The World’s End just doesn’t quite reach the dizzying heights of its predecessors. Don’t get me wrong it is relatively funny and I didn’t look at my watch once, but for…

OZ: The Great and Powerful is a love letter to the original 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz. However, it fails to step away from the classic films shadow. In this film, the Dorothy character is replaced by Franco’s Oz, a sideshow magician who has dreams of grandeur. Its this flaw that causes him to leave a trail of brokenhearted women after he has seduced them, giving them some sob story about his grandmother’s jewelry box. It is these lies that result in him being chased by one of his…

a good day to die hard

When going to see movies like A Good Day to Die Hard, you have certain expectations on what the film is going to be like. Very basic plot, with lots of action scenes and the good guy getting to kick the bad guy’s ass. In both cases, A Good Day to Die Hard succeeds, but even in that instance this film seems to disregard the plausibility of certain circumstances. Further in this review will explain what I mean by this. So the plot of the movie, as I said before, is…

It was while surfing the channels I noticed this movie was on. As a fan of Leighton Meester, I decided to watch it having completely missed this movie when (or if) it was released at the cinema. The plotline is very similar to that of another obsessive roommate movie, Single White Female. The main difference being rather than Meester’s character, Rebecca, wanting to be Minka Kelly’s character, Sara, Rebecca wants to be Sara’s only friend. To be honest the film starts off pretty slow and although the audience knows that…

Now colour me sceptical, but I like numerous others was a bit taken aback at Sony announcing a “re-boot” of Spider-man. It has only been ten years since the first film came out and five years since Spider-man 3 hit the screens. For me, I suspect that there was some sort of clause in the agreement that Sony had with Marvel that after “X” number of years, the rights would revert back to them. And now with Disney buying Marvel, Sony didn’t want to lose the rights. Couple that with…

And so we have our second attempt at the famous Grimm Story, Snow White. Though this time it has gone down more of the Game of Thrones/Lord of The Rings route than the family friendly Mirror, Mirror from earlier in the year. So, has it succeeded? Does it live up to the hype? The film has everything going for it. An A-list cast of Theron, Hemsworth and Stewart. The producers are behind the Tim Burton film, Alice in Wonderland. The source material is much darker than the Disney version that…
